About The Event
Yama and Niyama are widely recognized as the foundation of yoga practice. They appear as the first two branches in the 8-Limbs of Yoga as codified in the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali.
One way to understand them is to regard them as Cosmic Laws designed to reveal human beings' true potential. We’ll discover where these principles appear in the text and contemplate them as the ‘Great Vow’ the yogini takes. We’ll look at the method Patanjali suggests for overcoming the impulses to violate these tenets, and unpack the consequences that are said to arise when they are not followed. And we’ll discuss the ‘superpowers’ that are revealed when one becomes firmly established in each principle and how to apply them to daily life in our modern world.
The day will include some movement practice and ideas for how to apply these principles to teaching and practicing yoga.
Open to all levels of yoga practitioner, from seasoned teachers to curious newbies. Everyone is warmly welcomed and deeply respected.
