About The Event
Laurie and David Farmer took one of my Yin Yoga Teacher Trainings in New York City back in 2018. I was very excited to accept an invitation from them to teach at their studio, Sharing Yoga, in New Hampshire (I've never been there and always wanted to go!). Then the pandemic hit. Sigh. I'm super excited to announce that we have landed on a weekend in April for me to come meet their community and offer a few Yin Yoga Workshops, and also a Yin Yoga Teacher Training (the Bones & the Breath) in October.Â
Saturday, April 22:Â
12 - 2 pm: Yin Yoga to Reveal Your Inner Joy: Yoga philosophy indicates that our most essential nature is a luminous, radiant state of benevolence, peace and joy. Through the process of identifying with external circumstances, experiencing the reality of impermanence, and feeling pulled away from our own center we can experience life with anguish, disappointment and dissatisfaction. The stillness of yin yoga practice can reveal sensations that are intense and uncomfortable. In this yin yoga class, you will dare to dive into discomfort and watch it dissolve in the tender embrace of your own compassion and self-love. With nothing to fix, defend, justify or condemn and no-one to blame, you will befriend your thoughts and emotions, allow yourself to be exactly as you are, and discover a state of tremendous ease that is ever-present beneath the tumultuous waves of daily life. Rather than chasing a peak experience or blissful ‘high,’ you will come to know the joyful, neutral peace of being at home in your body, affirming that you belong in this phenomenal world.Â
3-5 pm: Still Spinning: Yin Yoga & the Chakras
Chakras are energetic vortices running approximately along the length of the spine. They contain and disseminate life-force energy (prana), and are believed to reign over life-issues. We could relate with them as programs in the bio-computer of the human body: we each have a program for survival, pleasure, will power/action, relationships, etc. In this workshop, students will sink into yin yoga poses that are believed to influence or be influenced by different chakras as they learn about the many different associations ascribed to each center. Symptoms of excess, deficiency and balance will be explored, as well as affirmations to potentially initiate balance and healing. Regarding this as an opportunity to practice Svadhyaya (self-inquiry) each participant has the opportunity to accept themselves whole-heartedly, exactly as they are, while recognizing limiting patterns and initiating powerful change from a place of self-love.
Sunday, April 23Â
12 - 2 pm: Yin Yoga to Quell Anxiety & Quiet the Mind
Often in our lives we are caught up in a speedy momentum that is filled with uncertainty about what will unfold, a propensity to trouble-shoot all of the ‘what if’s’ while attempting to strategize a positive outcome, and the tantalizing promise of happiness or satisfaction just around the corner, but never quite grasped. Rather than wondering and worrying about the future, yin yoga practice is an opportunity to deeply and viscerally explore the present moment. Using sensation and breath, you learn to anchor awareness in the body, in the present moment, where you discover the inner resourcefulness required to courageously meet whatever is arising. Fortified by this inner strength, you now become interested in your life and curious about what is actually going on. You learn to live, rather than fear, your life.
Early Registration Incentive: $35 per class until April 1, 2023. I sincerely hope you can join me in New Hampshire!Â
